We have had a forced hiatus due to debilitating illnesses of both my husband, Pat and myself.
Three years ago, Pat was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Leukemia “Richter’s Syndrome” which without intervention and a stem cell transplant he would not have survived.
As I had limited time in 2022 and virtually no time in 2023/24 to actively concentrate on my business, we did go quiet although still supplying customers with our portfolio book, there was no time to be on social media.
Due to the wonderful Doctors, we have encountered in this rather long and enduring journey Pat is here today. The treatment, recovery and ongoing side effects have taken a large toll on him and his body, but we are thankful to have been given this chance to live a relatively normal life again.
A year into Pat’s ordeal, I became unwell, visited my GP thinking I was worn out from all the daily struggles with Pat, being his partner, his 24 hour care giver when he wasn’t in hospital and just general life struggles, I was sent to have some blood tests and within 24 hours I also found myself in hospital and on the same ward as Pat had been. I too was diagnosed with Leukemia “APML”, then my own journey began. After a stint in hospital and then daily treatment for a period of nine months. We are both now in complete remission and grateful to our respective care teams at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter Mac in Melbourne, the Leukemia Foundation and our family and friends.
A delightful time In amongst all of our illnesses and treatment, and after a period of a 20 year friendship and relationship, Pat asked me to marry him on Christmas Day in 2022 we set our date for 9 December 2023 prior to me being diagnosed and Pat continuing his daily battles, we managed to organise and make our day with our guests who made it the most exciting and happy day we could have hoped for.
We have been made feel extra special with stories produced about us by Channel 9 News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slJ3IUbBOeg and
the Royal Melbourne Hospital https://www.thermh.org.au/news/couple-both-diagnosed-with-leukaemia-marry-in-special-ceremony.
Our story was featured in a recent copy of “That’s Life” magazine, we have been amazed at people recognising us and our story that is quite unusual.
Fortunately we had completed our own FamBridge portfolios which enabled us to look after each others daily affairs which without the information on hand and being hospitalised over night without warning the information became invaluable and made for less stress in a stressful situation.
